Joseph Schooling is Singapore's first-ever Olympic gold medallist. The former national swimmer clinched his historic gold medal in style, out-pacing his childhood idol Michael Phelps, and smashing multiple records – including national, SEA, Asian and Olympic – in the men’s 100m butterfly final at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. To date, he still holds multiple national, SEA and Asian records. His triumph not only marked a significant milestone for Singapore but also inspired countless young athletes in the nation.
