Atiq Syazwani Binte Roslan
Ju-jitsu
- Profile
- Atiq Syazwani Roslan is a former pencak silat exponent who transitioned into ju-jitsu, becoming one of the first athletes to do so under a pioneering cross-combat sports programme between the Singapore Silat Federation and the Singapore Wushu Dragon and Lion Dance Federation. She only took up ju-jitsu in April before quickly excelling at the Asian Championships, where she and partner Nayli Nur Syazleen claimed bronze in the duo and show categories, with Atiq also taking an additional bronze in the fighting system event. She explained that her silat background gave her a strong foundation in striking, agility and footwork, though she had to adapt to ju-jitsu's greater emphasis on gripping, upper-body leverage and ground control.
