- Loh Kean Yew is the former men's singles world champion, winning the title at the 2021 BWF World Championships and becoming the first Singaporean to achieve this feat, known for his agility, footwork and powerful smashes. Born in Penang, Malaysia, his success as a child led him to receive a scholarship from the Singapore Sports School, and he made his international debut for Singapore at the 2015 SEA Games, becoming a citizen the same year. At the Paris 2024 Olympics, he made history as the first Singaporean Olympian to reach the badminton quarter-finals in 20 years, defeating China's sixth-ranked player in the round of 16. His career-high world ranking of third, achieved in November 2022, remains the highest ever achieved by a Singapore men's badminton player.
