Christina Lau Lay Lian
Para Table Tennis
- Profile
- Christina Lau's life changed completely in 2005 when a car accident left her paralysed from the chest down and with no finger movement. A former prison officer, she spent years rebuilding her life from scratch, overcoming a period of depression before finding purpose through both art and sport. She took up para table tennis only in 2016, and after intensive training sessions four days a week in the evenings and full Saturdays, she put Singapore on the map by clinching a bronze medal in the women's doubles at the 2022 ASEAN Para Games. Beyond sport, Christina is also a mouth painting artist with the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists (MFPA), regularly showcasing and selling her work at exhibitions and conducting live mouth-painting demonstrations, guided by her belief: "Don't be afraid of failure; regardless of the circumstance you face, never quit.
