- Lim Yao Xiang is one of Singapore's most extraordinary sporting stories, having come out of retirement at 40 to compete at the 2021 SEA Games in Hanoi — nearly two decades after winning gold and bronze at the same Games in 2003. A former national water polo player who won SEA Games gold in 2011 and 2013, he made the decision to return to finswimming during the pandemic after missing the thrill of competition. At the 2021 Games, he set new personal bests in both the 50m and 100m surface events, and has continued to push his limits, setting Asian Masters records and winning gold at the World Championship Finswimming Indoor Masters in 2025.
