Tin Jingyao

Tin Jingyao has emerged as a prodigious talent in the world of chess, earning the distinction of being Singapore's youngest and highest rated chess grandmaster. His journey to prominence began in 2010 when he made waves in the local chess circuit by participating in a simultaneous exhibition against the legendary World Champion, Garry Kasparov. Alongside 21 other individuals, Jingyao faced the formidable Kasparov, and while the former World Champion emerged victorious in all his games, he could not help but commend the exceptional skills of the then 9-year-old Jingyao, describing him as a "real player." Fast forward to 2023, and Jingyao has accumulated a wealth of tournament experience, firmly establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with in the chess world. Notably, he has represented Singapore in the prestigious 2022 SEA Games, winning 1 silver and 2 bronze medals. Moreover, Jingyao has demonstrated his ability to hold his own against world-class grandmasters in fiercely competitive events such as the Ellobregat Open where he finished as vice champion. The 22 year-old computing science student from NUS continues to train and participate actively in spite of his heavy school work and his ability to excel while managing both studies and chess is an inspiration to all young chess players in Singapore.
