Suhairi Bin Suhani

Suhairi was the first Sports Excellence scholar with an intellectual impairment and has made strides since his debut at the 2013 ASEAN Para Games. He went on to earn his first major Games medal on home ground at the 2015 ASEAN Para Games, winning silver in the men's long jump F20 final, and qualified for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Suhairi continued training hard and leaped 6.60m at the 2018 Asian Para Games, where he placed 5th. Suhairi generously shares his experience with younger peers to keep them motivated, as well as educators from special and mainstream schools to help them understand the power of sports for persons with intellectual impairment. Although the world classifies him as intellectually disabled, Suhairi is smart enough to frown at the word “disabled”. Despite his learning difficulty that causes him to take a longer time to understand, react, remember, and focus, he lives his life with confidence and determination in his mind.
